Dr. Rund is a graduate of Yale University ’67 and the Stanford University School of Medicine ‘71. He is the founder and first Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University. He served as Chief or Emergency Medical Services at Ohio State from 1977 to 2011. He also served as President of OSU Physicians faculty group from 2003 to 2011 and Associate Dean of the College of Medicine and. He also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the OSU Hospital System and Board of Directors of the OSU Health Plan. Under his leadership the Department of Emergency Medicine developed fellowships in Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Pediatrics, Toxicology, Sports Medicine, Ultrasound, Research, Administration and Education. Rund has served as President of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and President of the Association of Academic Chairs in Emergency Medicine. He has also been the recipient of the ACEP Outstanding Contribution to Education Award. He is the author and editor of several emergency medicine textbooks including A Specialty Indeed: The History of Emergency Medicine at The Ohio State University. He is past president of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of EMS Physicians. He is formerly Medical Director of the Columbus Division of Fire and the EMS Technology Program at Columbus State Community College. He most recently served as Medical Director of the City of Worthington.
